Is audio really great or really annoying?With the proliferation of audio and video that plays automatically when you visit a website, is it something that adds a different dimension to your surfing or does it make you want to get off the page as quickly as possible?Personally, I listen to music when I'm surfing traffic exchanges, for instance, and audio drives me mad and actually turns me against the websites that incorporate it. If you feel the same way and use Firefox as your browser here are a couple of add-ons that will help get rid of the guilty components. They won't stop everything but will reduce the number of annoying sites dramatically. I find it highly annoying as well.
If there is going to be audio, there should be some sort of standard. Some of these pages start up with someone's booming voice yelling that they made a million dollars doing practically nothing in their spare time (which I do know is sort of possible), but it's almost always a lead up to selling the product - which is ok - but there are better means to doing it. Less annoying means. But I understand the need to get the average internet user's attention (which is very, very hard to do these days). That is why there should be a standard (ie length of time, volume, etc) |
